Auburn University (AU or Auburn) is a public research and land-grant university in Auburn, Alabama. With more than 24,600 undergraduate students and a total enrollment of more than 30,000 with 1,330 faculty members, Auburn is the second largest university in Alabama. It is one of the state&#39;s two public flagship universities. The university is classified among &quot;R1: Doctoral Universities &ndash; Very High Research Activity&quot;.

Auburn was chartered on February 1, 1856, as East Alabama Male College, a private liberal arts school affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, it became the state&#39;s first land-grant university and was renamed as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1892, it became the first four-year coeducational school in Alabama, and in 1899 was renamed Alabama Polytechnic Institute (API) to reflect its changing mission. In 1960, its name was changed to Auburn University to acknowledge the varied academic programs and larger curriculum of a major university.

The availability of Indian food outlets near the university location can be crucial if you are living abroad. Luckily, a couple of Indian restaurants are located nearby. Good Karma is just 5 minutes away whereas the Bombay Grill restaurant is about a 10 minute drive away.

The chic campus, which spans 341 acres, is laid out in a grid pattern with discrete building groups. In the northern sector of the core campus, the engineering buildings house the business school for companies. The entire campus is stunning, with a nice mix of classic and modern structures. The university has built several highly specialized research centres with cutting-edge equipment. Place Description

Auburn is the largest city of the American state of Alabama situated in Lee County. Auburn is not only the principal city of the Auburn-Opelika Metropolitan Area but also a college town. The current location of Auburn was open to settlers in 1832 and the first settlers arrived in 1836 from Georgia&rsquo;s Harris County. 
The city was incorporated in 1839 with already established Baptist and Methodist churches. Over the next few years, a number of educational institutions were established that led to more families migrating to the city. Auburn has been one of the both Alabama&rsquo;s and America&rsquo;s fast growing metropolitan areas.

Places of Interest

Auburn is blessed with scenic beauty and has several parks that you can visit. To be close with nature, you can take a trip to the Kreher Preserve &amp; Nature Center, Hidden Park, Siddique Nature Park and Town Creek Park. The Museum of East Alabama is another place where you can get better acquainted with the place of your study.

Nearby Airports

There&rsquo;s no nearby international airport so you would have to depend on the Auburn University Regional Airport (AUO) for your travel. While it is a good idea for your class trips, it might mean a longer journey when it comes to international travel.

Nearby Subway/ Train Stations

Train or subway stations are not to be relied upon if you are looking for a mode of transportation for your daily commute. A number of bus stops are located near the campus location that include: The Village at AU, Towne Place Suites Auburn and AU Hotel Conference Center.
