History

California State University, Long Beach is a public university located in California. Also colloquially known as CSULB, Long Beach State, The Beach, Cal State Long Beach or LBSU, the university is one the largest universities of the state of California by enrollment. Along with high enrollment, the university also operates on one of the lowest fee rates in the state.

Established in 1949 to cater to the higher education of the rising population post the second world war, the Los Angeles-Orange County State College offered 25 courses taught by 13 professors in total across two apartment buildings. Today, CSULB offers 82 undergraduate degrees, 65 postgraduate degrees and 4 doctoral degrees.

Residence Facilities are offered by the university and are encouraged as well. This scholarship is open to students enrolled in SCED 100 during the Fall semester and who submit the Abstracting assignment by the assignment due date. The Joe Russo Art of Science Scholarship was established both to honor Mr. Russo and to reward SCED 100 students for their creativity in an Abstracting assignment inspired by Joe's passion for learning and teaching. A graduate of CSULB's MS in Math Education, he shared his passion with his students as he inspired them to develop their full potential. The assignment that is the application challenges students to creatively examine spatial reasoning using real-world art. Students develop essential and critical thinking skills that help them 'think outside of the box' and recognize the role of spatial reasoning, perception and creativity in the practices of science.
