Blair Milan, talented actor, much loved son and brother, incredible friend to so many, died on Sunday April 17, 2011. Blair's joyful life was suddenly cut short by Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Blair's mother Lyndey and her late partner businessman John Caldon, united with family and friends and Blair's University, Charles Sturt, Bathurst to form The Blair Milan Fund to ensure his legacy lives on for years to come. Blair graduated as a Bachelor of Arts (Communication Theatre/Media) with Distinction in 2003. As Blair brought passion to everything he did, it seems right to pass on his passion and enthusiasm to future Charles Sturt students. The relationship the Milan family and Charles Sturt have is one of deep connection. As well as Blair's graduation from the Theatre Media degree, Blair's sister, Lucy Milan also graduated from the Theatre Media Degree (with Distinction). Lyndey spent a lot of time with their contemporaries, both fellow students and staff throughout these formative years. A teacher, television reporter and news presenter, Peter Andren (1946-2007) hosted many CSU Journalism students on cadetship while news editor at Prime Television and 2GZ in Orange. A firm believer that rural Australia should have a voice in Canberra, Peter entered Federal politics in 1996 as Member for Calare. The Peter Andren Memorial Scholarship aims to encourage true investigative journalism by providing funding for a project or proposal that explores a significant local or global topic.

My grandmother, Beth Montgomery Heath, born in 1935 was a trailblazer for women's empowerment in her professional and family life. She raised four kids and went on to have 10 grandkids (me being one of them) who were supported to pursue their educational and travel aspirations. Beth was a fierce advocate for social justice and the creation of equal opportunities, starting with the children she worked with at Child and Family Services in New York. She managed to juggle family life while giving 26 years as a Social Worker, knowing if she "could just change one kid's life, it was worth it." She financially supported my study abroad pursuit that landed me in the Newcastle NSW area in 2010, where I followed her footsteps and eventually completed my MSW in 2022. Doing student placement while on maternity leave in 2021 was incredibly difficult with finances being something that almost stopped my degree completion. RENNYLEA Angus is a family grazing business based in the Murray Valley in Southern NSW. Settled by the Corrigan family in 1870, Ruth and Anthony Corrigan are the fifth generation of the Corrigan family to work in the business, working with their parents, Bryan and Lucinda Corrigan. Angus cattle were introduced to Rennylea in 1952, Bryan commenced artificial breeding in the herd in 1974, and Rennylea Angus was enrolled in Group Breedplan when it commenced in 1985. Today there are 1,500 cows in the herd, and a total of 3,500 cattle on 7 properties located at Bowna and Culcairn. CAL Scholarship

Dawn had chosen teaching as her profession before leaving Newcastle Girls High School in 1946, but her family circumstances prevented her from commencing tertiary education. One of her older brothers had a friend, Alf, who upon learning of these circumstances, offered to be Dawn's guarantor for her Teacher's College Scholarship to Wagga Teachers College. Dawn began her training in a cold winter, July 1947, in the first intake of students. After their marriage, Dawn taught Infants and Primary children in the Newcastle and Hunter area and trained as a librarian later in her career. Dawn personally knew the benefits of encouraging children to read and learn. Dawn passed away in 2013. To honour Dawn's passion, Alf wished to support teacher trainees who are in difficult financial circumstances but have a strong work ethic and demonstrate sound academic progress as well as a compassionate approach to educating children. Alf passed away in 2018. The Rigby family wish to continue to support their belief in young educators through these scholarships at Charles Sturt University. Dr John Reid Scholarship

Long time supporters of Charles Sturt University, Dr Oliver Fiala studied at the Conservatorium of Music and Dramatic Arts in his homeland of Czechoslovakia before emigrating to Australia in 1949. In 1958 Oliver graduated from Sydney Teachers' College with a Diploma of Education. Dr Oliver Fiala was a much loved and well respected lecturer in drama during his time at Bathurst Teachers' College. This scholarship has been established to assist students undertaking a Bachelor of Education degree.

Len Madigan Memorial Scholarship

Lionel John Allen holds the distinction of being the only substantive Principal of Bathurst Teachers' College between its opening in 1951 and its formal closure on 31 December 1969 when it was incorporated into Mitchell College of Advanced Education. Principal Allen had led the College until April 1969, when he moved on to become an Executive Member of the Advanced Education Board.

This scholarship was established in 2003 in honour of local physiotherapist, Mark Smyth. Funds for this scholarship were raised by friends and family following Mark's passing. The scholarship supports students studying Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Podiatric Medicine, or Speech and Language Pathology at CSU's Albury-Wodonga Campus.

The Emeritus Club formed in 1983 in the time of CSU's predecessor institution, Mitchell College of Advanced Education. The Club has continued its founding policy of offering membership to all retiring members of the academic, administrative and support staff of CSU. There are presently 153 members of the Club, and members contribute to the activities of the University through service as Esquire Bedel at Graduations, through assistance in consideration of University scholarship applications, and in presenting a scholarship in the name of the Emeritus Club at the Scholarships Presentation Day.

Sam Phillips was the founding Principal of the Mitchell College of Advanced Education (MCAE). This memorial scholarship is open to final-year students studying any course at the Bathurst Campus. Preference will be given to the relatives of former MCAE staff members.

Geoff Honey gave 34 years of service to Charles Sturt University and the education sector and in this time developed a profound understanding of regional tertiary education. He knew first-hand the challenges regional students faced in attending university.
 
Geoff began his own career at Charles Sturt immediately after his HSC, having been awarded an administrative traineeship which gave him the opportunity to work across various departments while studying for a Bachelor of Business Management degree. From here he progressed through the ranks to the position of Executive Director, Division of Student Administration.

The Bowcher Family Scholarship was created to recognise the family's involvement within the Anglican Church, Anglican agencies and to support students with their tertiary education at CSU. Mr Andrew Bowcher is a past board member of St Martin's College, foundation director and past Chair of The Riverina Anglican College, Deputy Chair and Parish Councillor of Wagga Anglican Parish, Founding member and Warden of Northern Life Anglican Church and past graduate of CSU. Dr Annabel Bowcher is past Chair and parish councillor of St Paul's Anglican Church, member of Wagga Anglican Pre School Commitee and a PhD graduate of CSU.

The John Bowen Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of John Bowen as one of the first students to attend and complete their education at the Wagga Wagga Agricultural College. By providing this scholarship to a student showing commitment to the agricultural profession, John's family hopes to ensure passion like John's is encouraged in future generations.

This scholarship has been established to provide assistance in the form of accommodation scholarships for students in financial need who have demonstrated academic excellence.

Laurel Trinidad Accommodation Scholarship (St Martin's)

St Martin's College motto is: "Building Hope and Faith" This expresses the College's desire to enable the development of young people who will become leaders in their local churches and communities. St Martin's College was established in 1992 through the vision of the Right Reverend Barry Hunter (Anglican Bishop of Riverina), Glenn Maytum (the first Chaplain to the College), and the generosity of Mr George Tassell whose bequest made possible the building of the first cottage and St Mary's Chapel. Through the generosity of many benefactors has enabled the initial vision of 12 cottages, a community centre and chapel to come to fruition.

St Martins College Academic Scholarship

St Martin's College have established this scholarship to provide accommodation scholarships for new and returning students living at St Martin's studying Veterinary Science, Medical Radiation and Nursing. The scholarship is open to new and returning residents residing at St Martin's College in the year of the award; students must reside at St Martin's for the full year that the scholarship is awarded. This scholarship is valued at $2500 and must be used to cover accommodation costs.

Calvary Health Care Riverina provides three scholarships of $2000 each to final year students undertaking the Bachelor of Nursing at Charles Sturt University. This scholarship aims to encourage students to consider rural and regional practice, and to give them an insight into the career opportunities available within Calvary Health Care.

The FC Pye Rural Scholarship is in honour of Mr Fred Pye, who was one of the founders of the Rural Australia Foundation back in 1979. The recipient must display dedication to agricultural rural resource management.

Open to continuing Social Work students, this scholarship commemorates Ms Lila Kirilik, Senior Lecturer in Social Welfare at Charles Sturt University, whose untimely death in 2002 represented a significant loss to students and members of the academic and social service community. The high regard with which she was held lay in her focus on social justice in education for social service practice.

Professor John Carroll Memorial Scholarship

Wagga SRC is a group of students who are passionate about leadership, student experience and giving voice to students. We are a student-based committee that strives to create opportunities for other students and clubs that are affiliated with Charles Sturt. Wagga Wagga SRC wishes to provide financial support to students who demonstrate leadership capabilities and a desire to give back to community. The scholarship is designed to endorse success with the studies of students and help students reach their goals and potentials.
