The College of San Mateo, also known as CSM is located in the Californian city of San Mateo. It is a Public Community College that was established in the year 1922.
In the early 1920s, the principal of San Mateo High School, William L. Glascock first gave the idea to build a junior college which was meant to be an alternative to the 4-year college. In 1922, it was founded as the San Mateo Junior College (SMJC) and finally in 1954; the name was changed to College of San Mateo (CSM).

Institutional scholarships are given to new, continuing, and transfer students each year by the three institutions that make up the San Mateo County Community College District (Canada College, San Mateo College, and Skyline College).
