History

Initially called the Dundalk Regional Technical College, the Dundalk Institute of Technology got its current name in 1998. Established in 1971 the institute has more than 4000 students enrolled currently in full time courses. Institute carries its history within its walls and the studies happen in the old campus buildings. The courses offered at the institute are divided into four schools.&nbsp;

On-campus facilities

On campus, accommodation is offered at the student village, about 30 minutes away from the Dundalk Clarke Train Station. The halls of residence allow for the accommodation of international students with different costs as per the budget restrictions of different students.&nbsp;

Of campus facilities in the vicinity of the institute and not difficult to find because of a large student body. Finding off-campus facilities will also be easier if you have a roommate because the cost of the utilities and the rent will be reduced.&nbsp;

There are over 65 student-led clubs and societies run by the DkIT Sports &amp; Societies Office, so whether you want to pursue an existing interest or try something completely new, there is something for everyone &ndash; everything from football to politics, photography to horseback riding, dance to fashion, and even circus arts!

The student clubs and societies include a wide variety of clubs for all students to join. There are religious clubs like the Christian Union Society and athletic clubs like the Basketball club. All the societies are led by the DkIT Students&#39; Union.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The town has been inhabited since the Neolithic period and is today one of the major places of the country. The economy of the town depends on industry and tourism.&nbsp;

Internship programs and work placement opportunities are available for all the students enrolled in the institute. There is an undergraduate research program in which students can participate if they qualify as per the eligibility.&nbsp;

Placements&nbsp;

Work placement is a key component of many DkIT programmes, in which students complete an organised and assessed term of work experience in a relevant professional context. The institution collaborates with students and companies to improve student learning and establish relevant connections across all professional sectors on a local, national, and worldwide level.
