Kent State University (KSU) was established in 1910 as an institute for training public school teachers. Initially, it was known under the name of Kent State Normal School in 1911 in honour of William S. Kent, who donated 53 acres of land used for the original campus. Later in 1915, the school was renamed Kent State Normal College due to the addition of a four-year degree.

KSU offers students a set of scholarships independent of their financial background. First-year students of Fall 2022 will automatically be considered for merit scholarships offered by the University office of scholarships and financial aid.
