<h3>History</h3>

Lakehead University, Lakehead U or LU is a public research university with campuses located in the province of Ontario, Canada. It has campuses in Thunder Bay and Orillia. The university finds its origins in the Lakehead Technical Institute and Lakehead College of Arts, Science, and Technology. The Lakehead University Act came into force on the first of July in 1965 after which the university was officially renamed the Lakehead University. The university offered its first degree in May 1965 and since then has offered various undergraduate programs and graduate programs. The university also officially took over an Agricultural Research Station in 2018.

1.&nbsp;The Thunder Bay campus spans across an area of 119 acres. 
2. The Chancellor Paterson Library is the main library at Thunder Bay campus and stands in the middle of the grounds. 
3. Campus in Orilla first opened in 2006 with a building which promotes environmental leadership. 
4. Students are given personal attention with a faculty of over two thousand and small class sizes. 
5. In 2013, the Faculty of Law enrolled their first batch of students.

About

On-campus facilities: On-campus accommodation at Lakehead University is available to the businessmen, school groups and sports groups, all the same. There is no clear mention if Lakehead University Residence provides accommodation to their students or not. Moreover, all accommodations are seasonal and subject to availability. Off-campus facilities: Off-campus accommodations include single homes, duplexes, apartments and rooms that are available for renting in the nearby area. Interested students are requested to do their own research for renting and securing a place to live. You can also consider the option of homestay in the nearby Thunder Bay area. Food facilities (Availability of vegetarian/Indian food): Both campuses have on-campus food facilities available that would more than take care of your nutritional needs. Many Indian restaurants are situated at a distance that can be covered in less than 10 minutes from the university campus. Curry Up Now Indian Kitchen and Famous Tandoor Restaurant are some great nearby options if you are feeling homesick.

Lakehead University offers state-of-the-art facilities and even greater learning opportunities to their students. With the option of undertaking a Work Study Program, the students can also apply for various scholarships to fund their studies. The university has nine faculties and offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Along with several student services offered, there are many activities you can participate in while enjoying your student life.

Verdict

Having around 2000 faculty members, the class sizes are very small and individual attention is given to students. Professors may know you by your name. But there is a good mix of really experienced faculty and a few very new ones. The study is not that difficult, without additional rigor. Some of the popular professors are Ayan Sadhu (Engineering), Adam Tuyl (Mathematics), Brian Maclvor (Business), etc.

LU calls its scholarship program &lsquo;Canada&#39;s most generous. Some of the scholarships offered include:

1. Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships: For non-Canadian students, this scholarship is based on academic merit. 
2. Graduate Assistant appointments are more of a work experience/financial aid opportunity offered to full-time graduate students. 
3. Faculty Research Awards are available for full-time degree candidates for research or other study-related purposes. These awards can be given by the student&rsquo;s supervisor.

From the Biomechanics Laboratory and the Physiology Laboratory to the Adapted (Motor Development) Clinic, LU has ensured that students get practical knowledge to go with the theoretical one. There are athletics and sports facilities and services offered for wellness and recreation as well as for student support.

Place description: Thunder Bay is the second most populated city in the area of Northwestern Ontario, Canada. From the early 17th century, the lands of Thunder Bay saw European settlers and an important trading port was established on the banks of the Kaministiquia River. Its economy remained largely dependent on manufacturing and forestry, both of which have now become second to what is called the ‘knowledge economy’ which comprises education and research. Important landmarks/places nearby: The Thunder Bay Tourist Pagoda is a good tourist destination you can begin with. If you want a more scenic introduction to the city, you can visit the Mount McKay Scenic Lookout, the Fort William Historical Park, the Hillcrest Park and International Friendship Gardens. Thunder Bay Museum is somewhere you should go at least once to know the history of the place you would be studying in. Crime rate: The crime rate of Thunder Bay is 80.09 which is classified as high. Depending on the type of criminal offense, the crime rate of the city varies from moderate to very high. We recommend you look closely at the crime rate statistics and trends before making any final decisions. Nearby Airports: The Thunder Bay International Airport is just 11 minutes away from the university campus. When an international airport is this close to the place of your study, your commuting time while making travel plans reduces significantly. Your domestic international trips would be less chaotic with an airport this close. Nearby Subways and train stations: While in Thunder Bay, it would be a wise decision to make the most of the bus routes that connect you to the entire city. The nearest bus stops are just a minute away. Some of the nearby bus stops include: Nursing Building, Lakehead University, Oliver & Keith Jobbitt and Oliver & Sanders.

Location

Internships: While you are in Lakehead University, you can get the opportunity to gain work experience without having to leave campus. Work Study Program – Spring/Summer (LUWSP-SS) is a great program to enroll in and students can usually find job opportunities related to their fields of study. With flexible hours and paid jobs, you can gain both work experience and some financial independence.
