Lamar University (Lamar or LU) is a public university in Beaumont, Texas. Lamar has been a member of the Texas State University System since 1995. It was the flagship institution of the former Lamar University System. As of the fall of 2021, the university enrollment was 16,191 students.

Lamar University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university is named for Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas.

Lamar is most prominent for its intercollegiate athletic teams, the Cardinals. It has an urban setting, and the core campus of LU is 299+ acres. LU is organized into five undergraduate colleges including the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Education and Human Development, and Fine Arts and Communication; one graduate college, the College of Graduate Studies; and an honors college, the Reaud Honors College.

Student Centre

All on-campus student organisations are centred at the Setzer Student Center, also known as &quot;The SET,&quot; which hosts frequent social and cultural events.

Sports and Athletics

The volleyball programme was previously based in the McDonald Gym and served as the university&#39;s sports complex.

According to financial need, the institution offers scholarships to foreign students studying in the USA. Each student must submit a separate scholarship application. Each year, more than 2,000 scholarships are given out.

Cardinal Elite Scholarship

Students who achieve a minimum GPA of 3.85 on a scale of 4 or who place in the top 25% of their graduating class are given a scholarship of USD 40,000. Additionally, SAT or ACT results from international students are necessary.

Academic Excellence Scholarships 
Students who achieve a minimum GPA of 3.8 on a scale of 4 or who place in the top 25% of their graduating class are given a scholarship of USD 32,000. Additionally, SAT or ACT results from international students are necessary.

Distinguished Scholars

Students who achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4 or who place in the top 25% of their graduating class are given a scholarship of USD 4,000. Additionally, SAT or ACT scores must be submitted by international students.

Lamar University is home to more than 2,500 students who live inside the premises of the campus with furnished residence halls, living areas, and a recreational sports center.

Travel and Transportation&nbsp;

The Lamar University Shuttle Service is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the normal semester. Shuttles are used to transport students around the campus. Lamar University&#39;s shuttle service takes students to various locations, including residence halls, shopping malls, and apartments.

	<li>On August 18, 2009, a tornado hit the west side of Beaumont, causing damage to cars and several local businesses. Injuries were minimal</li>
	<li>While wintry precipitation is unusual, it does occur. The most recent significant wintry event to occur was December 8, 2017, when the&nbsp;Southeast Texas Regional Airport&nbsp;recorded 3 inches of snowfall.&nbsp;December 11, 2008,&nbsp;and December 4, 2009,&nbsp;were also days that Beaumont saw measurable snowfall.</li>
	<li>Snow also fell across the Beaumont area on Christmas Eve 2004. In January 1997, a severe and historic ice storm struck the region, leaving thousands without power and major tree damage in its wake.&nbsp;In unofficial records, Beaumont received as much as 30 inches of snow during the blizzard of February 1895 that impacted the Gulf Coast.</li>
