It was due to the passing of bill 109, that in 2002, the Ontario Tech University emerged. Standing in Oshawa, Ontario, the institution was a government initiative to expand the learning space for the post secondary studies. 
The university comprises courses and programs with primary focus on the fields of engineering and computer science. From only around 900 students in the start, at present the student enrollment population is about 10,000. Apart from courses and programs, Ontario Tech encourages research work also.

On-campus facilities: The university offers accommodation to about 1,300 students at a time. There are 2 residences by the name Simcoe Village and South Village. The first one consists of 3 halls of residence and later is itself the hall of residence. The common features and services are: 1. Fully furnished rooms. 2. Maharaja is 11 mins from the college. 4. Signature Indian Cuisine is about 15 mins from the campus. 5. Curry Club restaurant is also about 12 mins away.
