The university's main campus is located in downtown Toronto's Garden District. Although portions of the campus are zoned for commercial and residential use, most of the site is classified as a mixed-use institutional district.
The public realm encompasses most of the streets and laneways on Ryerson's campus. Connector streets with automobile traffic and pedestrian-only streets are examples.
The university owns most of the parks, plazas, and green spaces on campus. At the same time, the public has access to these areas.
The university owns and operates more than 40 structures. Many of the first buildings erected expressly for the institution were developed in the Brutalist architectural style in the mid-twentieth century.
