<p><b>San Francisco State University</b> (commonly referred to as <b>San Francisco State</b>, <b>SF State</b> and <b>SFSU</b>) is a public university in San Francisco. As part of the 23-campus California State University system, the university offers 118 different bachelor's degrees, 94 master's degrees, and 5 doctoral degrees along with 26 teaching credentials among six academic colleges.
</p><p>The university was founded in 1899 as a state-run normal school for training school teachers, obtaining state college status in 1921 and state university status in 1972. The 141 acre campus is located in the southwest part of the city, less than two miles from the Pacific coast. San Francisco State has 12 varsity athletic teams which compete at the NCAA Division II level, most as members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

        <p>There are a wide variety of homestay options available, and our partners do their best to match students and hosts according to their interests and preferences. Homestay hosts include single people, young couples with children and pets, and older couples. SFSU motto's is "Experientia Docet" which in English means "experience teaches". SF State's faculty includes Guggenheim Fellowship recipients, Emmy Award and Pushcart Prize winners, National Science Foundation honorees and other internationally recognized leaders and innovators. They regularly work with Apple, Google, Facebook, the Smithsonian Institute, the National Institutes of Health, NASA and Pixar. Teachers are really knowledgeable and classes are engaging. The facility and staff are friendly and helpful, especially if you need help. However the professors share the desire to see their students succeed but they will not make things easy for you. SFSU is focused on excellence in teaching and research that can be actively applied, so that students get a better understanding of how they can apply their knowledge in the real world. At SFSU there's a program that basically hires the students as interns, and they have faculty who have release time so they can act as mentors.

<p>The university offers financial assistance in the form of scholarships, grants, loans from the government and work-study. A limited number of <b>scholarships are available for international students to afford study in the USA</b>. To be considered for the scholarships, a separate application is required for each scholarship and deadlines are set for each scholarship. Nearly 66% of the students at the university receive some sort of financial assistance to afford study in the university.</p>

Financial Aid

SF State owns three conferences facilities, those are the Seven Hills Conference Center, the Towers Conference Center and the Downtown Campus. The Campus buildings include the City eats Dining Center (DC), the Mary Park Hall, Mary Ward Hall, Tower Junior Suits, the towers at centennial square, the village at centennial square, the university park north, the university park south and the humanities building. SF State divides it campus in 4 quadrants the Northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest quadrant. At SFSU you'll have access to tennis courts, softball field, gyms, a studio theatre, the maloney field (baseball), The Swamp at The Don Nasser Family Plaza (Basketball, Wrestling, Volleyball), Golden Gate Park Speedway Meadow (Cross Country), Cox Stadium (Soccer, Track and Field), and so many other features.

San Francisco is one of the most vibrant and beautiful cities, home to an ethnically rich, cosmopolitan center of business, technology and culture. This provides an exciting laboratory for community-service projects and work-study programs, and a rich venue for students to explore. Its setting is urban, and the campus size is 142 acres. SF State's main campus is located in a residential area of the city. You can get there easily by public transportation. Since its setting is urban there are many known restaurants nearby, including Olive Garden, McDonald's, Panda Express, and many others.

San Francisco has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate characteristic of California's coast, with moist mild winters and dry summers. The average temperature is 57°F. You will probably want to bring a light jacket almost anywhere you go. You're much more likely to be too cool than too hot. The coastal breezes really keep the city nice, but it's rarely too hot; once in a while there are few heat waves, but these only happen a few times a year. So the best thing to do is to pack layers: tank tops, shirts, sweaters, shorts, a warm jacket, and pants. Not only should you pack layers but also wear them, but don't forget your t-shirt and flip-flop in case you find yourself on a hot day!
