Southern Utah University (SUU) is a public university in Cedar City, Utah. Founded in 1897 as a normal school, Southern Utah University now graduates over 1,800 students each year with baccalaureate and graduate degrees from its six colleges. SUU offers more than 140 undergraduate degrees and 19 graduate programs. More than 10,000 students attend SUU.
SUU's 17 athletic teams compete in Division 1 of the NCAA and are collectively known as the Thunderbirds. SUU joined the Big Sky Conference in September 2012. Southern Utah University is also the site for the Utah Summer Games.
 In the spring of 1897, Cedar City was notified it had been chosen as the site for the Branch Normal School, the first teaching training school in southern Utah. For the next three months, citizens labored to complete Ward Hall on Main Street for the first school year. In September, the school opened its doors.

SUU Arts

The College of Performing and Visual Arts at Southern Utah University makes up SUU Arts. Each year, more than 100 concerts, talks, conferences, and exhibitions are put on by art and design departments, music, theatre, dance, and arts administration.

There are more than 30 clubs at Southern Utah University, including ones for business, acting, French, and other interests.

Sports and Athletics

You may join and participate on a variety of athletic teams at Southern Utah University, including the Acronaires, basketball, futsal, indoor soccer, volleyball, and hockey.&nbsp;The 15 varsity sports teams at SUU are proud WAC members and participate in Division 1 of the NCAA.
