A part of the State University System of Florida, the University of Central Florida, or UCF for short, is a public university with one of the largest student bodies in the entire country. The university was founded in 1963 but opened five years later as the Florida Technological University with its aim to provide assistance to the country&rsquo;s space program.

A decade after its opening, the university&rsquo;s name was changed to the University of Central Florida as its academic curriculum expanded. Today the university enrolls about 66,000 students from over 157 countries around the world.

Moving inward, there are Apollo Circle, Mercury Circle, and the innermost Pegasus Circle.

The nearest train stations are about half an hour away so they cannot be used for daily commuting. Bus stops are also about 20 minutes away so you would have to rely on Off-Campus Shuttle Service for your daily commuting to and from the campus.&nbsp;

The Addition Financial Symposium Scholarship will award three scholarships based on a 500 -700 word essay judged by a faculty committee. This scholarship is available to all University Honors students who are enrolled in Honors Symposium each Fall. Additional information will be provided in the Symposium class.

Addition Financial Symposium Scholarship

The Akerman Law STEM Scholarship was established to recognize outstanding Burnett Honors College students majoring in the STEM disciplines. Students applying should be working towards their Honors Undergraduate Thesis.

Akerman Law STEM Scholarship

The Alvin Y. Wang Undergraduate Research Scholarship honors the tenure of dean emeritus Alvin Wang, the second dean of the Burnett Honors College and professor of Psychology. Dr. Wang joined the university in 1986, and served the Burnett Honors College as associate dean for four years, and then dean for twelve years until 2017. Under his leadership, the Burnett Honors College flourished, and some of his biggest accomplishments include: the outstanding academic achievements of the scholars, the creation of a philanthropic development office, an alumni relations program, and more than doubling the number of students involved in community engagement over the last decade. In honor of his leadership, parents, alumni, faculty and friends created a surprise endowment in his honor upon his stepping down from the deanship in 2017. The scholarship is available for Burnett Honors College undergraduate students participating in undergraduate research. Students may be in the University Honors or Honors Undergraduate Thesis programs.

Alvin Y. Wang Undergraduate Research Scholarship

Ann McCormick Simpson received her master's degree from the University of Central Florida while working a full-time job. After graduating, Ann began her career as an elementary teacher and taught for a few years. She transitioned into working in administration and eventually began working for a national reading company. Ann has always had a passion for education and knew she wanted to help support others. She established this scholarship for graduate students because she remembers how hard it was working full-time while pursuing a master's degree. Her hope is that this scholarship will help alleviate some financial burdens and encourage students to advance their education.

Austyn White Legal Studies Scholarship

Beth Juge graduated from Kansas University in 1966 with a B.S. degree in Chemistry, one of the few women graduates in the Sciences. She was hired by Shell Oil Co., in Houston, Texas as a quality control chemist. It was there that she met her future husband, Frank Juge, who was employed as a Research Chemist. In 1967 they were married, and in 1968 they moved to Orlando, Florida, when her husband joined the faculty of Florida Technological University (now UCF) as a charter member of the faculty. In August of 1995 she underwent surgery for Colon Cancer, and after a courageous six-year battle against the disease she passed away in May of 2001. In her memory, her friends and family established the Beth Juge Scholarship.

This scholarship was established in honor of Carol J. Barr. Carol was the health informatics program director for the School of Global Health Management and Informatics at the University of Central Florida for more than twenty years. In her role, Carol mentored countless students and professionals who are now paying it forward and mentoring current students. Carol is very well respected in the Central Florida community. In 1995, Carol was recognized with the Excellence in Faculty Academic Advising award.

This scholarship was started in honor of Dillon Burleson, a passionate graduate of the Higher Education and Policy Studies program (educational leadership, student personnel). Dillon passed away about a year after graduation, and some of his classmates came together to establish this scholarship to honor his legacy and love for students and higher education.

H. Timothy Hendrix Exceptional Education Scholarship

Aaron Liberman is a professor emeritus in the School of Global Health Management and Informatics. He worked as a health care administrator for more than five decades, serving in various leadership positions and specializing in health care reform. In addition to receiving nearly $4.5 million in grants and awards, Professor Liberman has authored more than four books, seven book chapters, six monographs, 98 journal articles and 49 paper presentations. He completed his B.A. in psychology at Baylor University, M.S. in educational psychology at Indiana University, and M.A. and Ph.D. in hospital and health administration at the University of Iowa. Liberman and his wife, Joan, established this endowed scholarship in 2011. The scholarship is awarded to full-time graduate students in the health services administration program.

John L. Brinson Endowed Scholarship

The Kathy S. Cook Undergraduate Research in Legal Studies Scholarship was established in 2017 in honor of legal studies professor and Honors in the Major faculty advisor, Kathy Cook, after 35 years of steadfast service to the University of Central Florida. The scholarship provides awards for students with financial need participating in the Honors in the Major program. Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in the Honors in the Major program, demonstrate financial need, and preference will be given to those pursuing a career in the legal profession.

Kinsley Family Endowed Scholarship in Emerging Media

Lynnwood Arthur Lee (aka "Woody") graduated with a degree in economics from Florida Technical University (FTU) in 1978. Woody served in the United States Navy from 1969-1973 during the Vietnam War. Diane, his wife, a 1979 graduate of FTU, majored in elementary education. She taught first and second grade for 31 years at Longwood Elementary School in Seminole County. Woody spent more than 30 years working in telecommunications in Central Florida. Woody spent his life helping others and finding ways to pay forward the blessings he was given. He often served as a volunteer at Lyman High School teaching economics and mentoring students. He also spent many years volunteering his time on several boards. When he was not working or volunteering, he loved to spend time with his family on the water or at the beach. He was an avid fisherman and boater and loved to travel. After Woody's passing in 2009, Diane and her family chose to honor her husband's life and legacy by establishing a scholarship in his name. The L.A. Lee Family Scholarship at the University of Central Florida was created in 2018 to provide financial support to students majoring in elementary education.
