The University of Greenwich, also known as UOG was established in the year 1890 and is located in Greenwich, United Kingdom. It was earlier known as the Woolwich Polytechnic and the Thames Polytechnic. It is a public university having three campuses located on the banks of the beautiful River Thames, the historic Chatham Maritime in Kent and the green areas of Avery Hill. The main campus of the university is located at the Old Royal Naval College, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The University of Greenwich is an excellent university that is the alumni of two Nobel laureates.

This fund is for EU students without a maintenance loan and international students who have experienced unexpected short-term costs.

The International Hardship Fund is available to EU students without a maintenance loan and international students who have encountered the following:

Unforeseen short-term accommodation costs
Unforeseen short-term subsistence costs
Unforeseen one-off technology costs for your studies
Unforeseen one-off travel costs.

We expect all students to arrange adequate finances before they begin their studies. All applicants to this fund must provide evidence of this and the steps they have taken to improve their financial position.

International Hardship Fund

For many students, applying to university can be a difficult and daunting decision. Financial barriers can limit student potential. We are grateful to the Mister Gees Foundation, who are sponsoring a bursary worth GBP5,000 to a student enrolled on MSc Water, Waste and Environmental Engineering.

This bursary is offered by The Crown Charity, Greenwich Hospital, to support former serving members and/or their sons or daughters. It offers up to GBP3,000 towards the academic costs of an undergraduate degree.

Grants are means-tested and are normally awarded for one academic year. Depending on your circumstances, Greenwich Hospital may extend the award for up to four years.

Royal Navy and Royal Marine Bursary

The William Hills Scholarship offers six students GBP2,000 each year for the duration of their 4-year MEng Mechanical Engineering degree. An additional two awards are available for two students on year two of their BEng Mechanical Engineering degree.

The scholarship is available to full-time MEng Mechanical Engineering students, as well as students who transfer from the BEng Mechanical Engineering to the MEng in Year 3.

In 2020/21 two additional awards are available for BEng Mechanical Engineering students. They will be available for the best two performing students in Year 2.

The scholarships are awarded based on performance at the end of the first academic year.

A bursary of GBP1,000 is available for one second-year student and one third-year student.

This will help you focus on your studies and/or to engage in new and varied activities to support your future career options.

Robert Holman Bursary

The David Fussey Choral Exhibition Bursary is worth GBP1,000 per year for students who are selected to join the University of Greenwich Choir.

The bursary is awarded in memory of Dr David Fussey, the late Vice-Chancellor of the University of Greenwich, who greatly enjoyed singing in choirs.

It is available to all students who audition successfully to join the University of Greenwich Choir.

The bursary is worth GBP1,000 per year for up to three years. Winners will be expected to perform a number of duties.

The University of Greenwich Choir is an 70-strong chorus made up of students, staff, alumni and friends of the University of Greenwich. The choir rehearses on Monday evenings during term-time on the Greenwich campus, and gives public performances throughout the year including at the University Carol Services and in large choral - orchestral concerts, as well as less formal settings.

The choir sings a wide variety of music including classical, folk, pop, jazz and musical theatre. There is no charge to join, and there are no formal auditions. We welcome those of all standards to our friendly and ambitious choir!

David Fussey Choral Exhibition Bursary 2023/24

If you are experiencing an unexpected financial crisis and are unable to afford food, toiletries or other essential items as a result, you may be eligible to apply for a food voucher.

Any current fully registered University of Greenwich student who meets the eligibility criteria can request a food voucher.

There is no guarantee that a voucher will be issued, and all requests will be considered on their individual merits. There will be a limited amount available up to the value of GBP20 each. Vouchers can be used in all main supermarkets and there is no cash alternative.

Vouchers are not a long-term solution to financial difficulties, and you may only make one application per term.
