University of Hull is a public research university. It was founded in the year 1927 as University College Hull. Though it was established in 1927, but it received university status in 1954. Earlier it got established as an external college in the University of London by Prince Albert, the Duke of York.
College was built on land donated by Hull city Council. In 1928, 14 departments in pure sciences and the arts. It began with an amount as small as 39 students. College had only one building at that time, which is known as the Venn building. During the 1950s, the university experienced an upsurge in the number of students, due to which the university had to arrange temporary buildings for students giving a feel of an “academic army camp”.
In the year 2000, University became University of Hull Scarborough Campus. Year 2003 proved to be a blessing for the University, as the University experienced a significant expansion. Buildings of the former Humberside University Campus were purchased. By this acquisition, the size of Cottingham Road campus was increased by one-third.
 Facts: 1. The University of Hull gained its royal charter on 6th September 1954 and within a year of receiving royal charter applications in the college got doubled. 2. In 1972, University bagged another achievement in its list. George Gray and Ken Harrisons created room-temperature stable liquid-crystals in the chemistry lab of university, which turned out to be an immediate success in the electronics industry and consumer products. 3. Earlier, it had seven halls for accommodation of students but now it has just 3 halls. 4. Student union building comprises a number of bars and catering outlets. 5. Phillip Larkin, a great poet, served the university for over 30 years.

On-campus facilities: University of Hull provides accommodation for students. 1. It has beautifully constructed three residential halls for students which includes Taylor court, The Courtyard, Westfield Courtyard. 2. There are 2300+ rooms on-campus. 3. Facilities like WiFi, utility bills and insurance bills are included in rent. 4. Taylor courts provides you with standard and refurbished single en-suites. Additionally, cafes , bars and cinemas are available on campus. Off-campus facilities: Students can go for private apartments, instead of living on the campus. They can look for apartments according to their budget and requirement in case they are not able to find a place on the campus. Food facilities (Availability of vegetarian/Indian food): There are seven cafes on campus. Along with that, bars are also constructed within the campus. Students can cook and even go out for a hangout and food.

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, the University of Hull is offering 7 scholarships to students in Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Mexico, Turkey and Vietnam applying for postgraduate courses in September 2024.

The GREAT Scholarships 2024 programme, launched by the British Council together with 72 UK universities, supports postgraduate students from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ghana, Greece, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam to access world-class UK higher education opportunities.

The scholarship programme offers financial support of a minimum of GBP10,000 to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for courses in a range of subjects, at the 72 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Please note that applicants should be passport holders of Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Mexico, Turkey and Vietnam.
