The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, shortened as UMass Dartmouth or UMassD, is a public-funded university located in the city of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, USA. It is basically the southernmost campus part of the University of Massachusetts system. In the year of 1895, the Massachusetts legislature established the New Bedford Textile School in New Bedford and the Bradford Durfee Textile School in Fall River.&nbsp;

Later in the year 1962, both the institutions got merged, and thus the Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute got established. Within 7 years, the institute expanded itself and earned the charter to become the Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU). In the year 1991. the university combined with the University of Massachusetts and renamed to its current name.&nbsp;
