On December 13, 1785, a petition was presented to Governor Thomas Carleton as an academy or school of liberal arts and sciences. By 1829, the academy had been renamed King&#39;s College, and the building now known as Sir Howard Douglas Hall had been dedicated. The act establishing the secular, provincial University of New Brunswick was passed on April 13, 1859. In 1973, St. Thomas University relocated to campus, moving from Chatham and affiliating with UNB; and a second UNB campus was established in Saint John.

On-Campus Accommodation

Two resident halls are available to students at the University of New Brunswick&#39;s Saint John campus for living accommodations.

<ul>
	<li>85 two-bedroom suites with a three-piece bathroom and a little kitchenette complete with a refrigerator and microwave are available at the Dr Colin B. MacKay Residence.</li>
	<li>68 students are housed at Sir James Dunn Residence. It is a conventional house with both single and double bedrooms.</li>
	<li>There are TV lounges, study lounges, internet access, etc., in all&nbsp;apartments.</li>
	<li>The bedrooms include laminate floors, beds, dressers, chairs, desks, and other furniture.</li>
