History

The University of Northampton was established as Nene College in 1975. This public university as we know it today came into being after the merging of several training colleges. The university status to this university was granted in 2005. The university today enrolls over 12,000 students, including both undergraduates and postgraduates.

In 1924, Northampton Technical College was established in the location which today has the Avenue campus of the university. The Duke and Duchess of York. then inaugurated a new building of the university eight years later. Over the course of outfits functioning, the university expanded its curriculum to include occupational therapy and arts.&nbsp;

Place Description

Located in the East Midlands, the town of Northampton is a civil parish. It is one of the largest towns in the country, set on the banks of River Nene. Northampton has seen settlements dating from the Bronze Age, Romans as well as the Anglo Saxons. In the medieval period, the town saw many cathedrals and churches as well as the university of Northmapton fortified. In the years 1264 and 1460, the town also saw bloodshed as it was the site of medieval battles. A new town was established in 1968 to accelerate town growth.&nbsp;
