The University of Queensland was founded in 1909 by the Queensland parliament. It is one of the six sandstone universities and the first university in the state. It was officially founded on April 16, 1910, with the gazette&nbsp;of appointments to the first UQ Senate.&nbsp; 
The teaching started in 1911 in Old Government House in George Street, Brisbane.
