The University of Regina is a non-denominational university, which grew out of Regina College, founded in 1911&nbsp;In direct response to the award of the University of Saskatchewan to Saskatoon rather than Regina, the&nbsp;Methodist Church of Canada&nbsp;established Regina College in 1911 on College Avenue in Regina, Saskatchewan, starting with an enrolment of 27 students; it was adjacent to the now long-defunct St Chad&#39;s College (a theological seminary for the training of Anglican clergy) and Qu&#39;Appelle Diocesan School, also on College Avenue.&nbsp;

The arts and sciences programs evolved with the growth of Regina Campus, which held its first&nbsp;convocation&nbsp;in 1965. The new campus was begun in 1966 on Wascana Lake, to the southeast of the old campus whose buildings, however, remain in use: the old Girls&#39; Residence is now used by the Regina Conservatory of Music; the Normal School, having at various times housed not only the teacher-training facility that is now the University&#39;s Department of Education but the&nbsp;Saskatchewan Museum of Natural History, war-training facilities during World War II when it was temporarily resumed by the federal crown and latterly the University&#39;s Fine Arts Department, is now the&nbsp;Canada-Saskatchewan Soundstage.

International students can apply for a variety of scholarships at the University of Regina, including:

University of Regina International Entrance Scholarship

	<li>This scholarship is worth up to CAD 200,000 each year.</li>
	<li>Undergraduate applicants with a study visa are automatically given CAD 3,000.</li>
	<li>They have the option of receiving this money in the form of tuition refund or an eight-month free stay at the university.</li>

The Centre features a 25,000-square-foot three-court gymnasium with retractable bleacher seating for up to 2,000 spectators, two multipurpose gymnasiums, an elevated 200-meter four-lane running track, a large fitness Centre, an Aquatics Centre, lecture and classroom facilities, teaching and research laboratories, an artificial turf field and two natural grass fields.

These facilities are intended for the educational and recreational use of the University of Regina community. When not in use for academic, athletic, and recreational sports programs or other University-related events, facilities may be used by the general public for recreational events in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies.

Campus safety

We are on campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.&nbsp; We provide proactive patrols and call responses to&nbsp;both the main campus and College Avenue campus as well as other off-campus facilities.&nbsp; We are comprised of a Director, Manager of Operations, Patrol Supervisors and Patrol Members.&nbsp; Our patrol members have a variety of education, experience and backgrounds.&nbsp; We have&nbsp;numerous&nbsp;ongoing&nbsp;training courses that enhance our skills to serve the campus community better.&nbsp; We can be contacted at&nbsp;ANY&nbsp;time at&nbsp;306-585-4999.

Infrastructure

Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan, Canada. The Royal Saskatchewan Museum has exhibits on Canada&rsquo;s Aboriginal peoples and native animals. It&#39;s in the Wascana Centre, a park surrounding Wascana Lake. Also in the park is the MacKenzie Art Gallery, with local and global artwork. Hands-on displays fill the lakeside Saskatchewan Science Centre. The RCMP Heritage Centre celebrates the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Crime rate

Despite having fallen in recent years, Regina&#39;s crime rate remains among the highest in Canada. Regina&#39;s overall police-reported crime rate was second highest in the country in 2012. Also, the relative severity of crimes in Regina is quite high and the city continues to top the national Crime Severity Index. Regina&#39;s crime rate declined 10% from 2011 to 2012. Regina also has one of the highest rates of intravenous drug use in Canada.

Internships

Internships are very similar to the Co-op work terms, but have a few small differences:

	<li>While Co-op allows you to work for a semester at one employer, then go back to class, then work again for another employer, etc., an internship only allows you&nbsp;one placement&nbsp;for either&nbsp;twelve or sixteen months&nbsp;with only one employer. You are able to work for a longer period of time to fully recognize the nature of the job in various seasons, allow for completion of projects, etc.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Senior students, or students who have completed the third year of their program, are eligible for an internship.</li>
	<li>Many employers prefer to hire students for longer periods of time as a &quot;test-run&quot; for future permanent employment once completed school.</li>

Regina has warm summers and cold, dry winters, prone to extremes at all times of the year. Average annual&nbsp;precipitation&nbsp;is 389.7&nbsp;mm (15.34&nbsp;in) and is heaviest from May through August, with June being the wettest month with an average of 75&nbsp;mm (2.95&nbsp;in) of precipitation. The average daily temperature for the year is 3.1&nbsp;&deg;C (37.6&nbsp;&deg;F). The lowest temperature ever recorded was &minus;50.0&nbsp;&deg;C (&minus;58&nbsp;&deg;F) on 1 January 1885, while the highest recorded temperature was 43.9&nbsp;&deg;C (111&nbsp;&deg;F) on 5 July 1937.
