History

The University of the West of Scotland was first established in the town of Paisley in Scotland. The university now has four campuses located in the four Scottish towns of Dumfries, Paisley, Blantyre, and Ayr. Previously called the University of Paisley, this educational institution now has a campus in London, England as well.&nbsp;

The university came into being as teh&nbsp; Paisley College of Technology in 1897 and it was nearly a century later in 1992 that the university was granted university status. The University of the West of Scotland as we know it came into being in 2005 when the University of Paisley merged with Bell College, Hamilton.&nbsp;

Place Description

Paisley is a town in Scotland located in west central Lowlands. The town touches the border of Glasgow and is also an administrative centre to the Renfrewshire council area. The town is one of the five largest settlements of the country and is also the largest town in Scotland.&nbsp; 
Historically, Paisley came onto the map with the establishment of the Paisley Abbey in the 12th century. By the 19th century, the weaving industry in the town boomed and gave the world the Paisley pattern and the Paisley shawl. The weavers of the town also find mention in the Radical War of 1820 by being prominent supporters of it.&nbsp;
