A public comprehensive and research university, the University of Windsor, is situated in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It was established on September 1, 1857. It began as Assumption College and was later granted the title of the university in 1953. By 1956, it was established as an individual university and ended its affiliation with the University Of Ontario. Throughout the 19th century, the University Of Windsor has grown from admitting women students in the 1950s to admitting up to 8000 students in the 1980s. It has earned its reputation through these years of turmoil and in present times, is ranked among the top 1000 best places for studying in the world.
