History

Elms was founded by the sisters of St. Joseph and the Diocese of Springfield in 1897. It was founded as a girls&#39; preparatory academy in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In 1899, a new property was purchased in Chicopee by Rev. John McCoy and Bishop Thomas Beaven and it was named St. Joseph&#39;s Normal College. The college received its charter in 1928 as a women&#39;s liberal arts college with a specialization in education. The founders applied for the charter to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1927. An evening program was established in 1953. The college begin admitting men in 1998.

The college has an O&#39;Leary Hall that was built in 1922 and is the oldest building on campus. It provides housing facilities for upper-class students and has a capacity of 180 students. It has different living options like single, double, triple and quad sharing rooms on four floors. Men and women live on different floors. It has a large common room that has a TV on the first floor and a common room for studying.

Students who don&#39;t want to live on campus can find rental apartments and flats outside the campus according to their budget.

The campus is located in Chicopee about two miles north of Metro Center Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 14 buildings and is focusing on the Keating Quadrangle. The campus has spacing for different courses. It has labs and required equipment for research work. It also has large dining halls, alumnae library, Leary field, Maguire Fitness Center and food court. The campus offers different activities and amazing student life.&nbsp;
